Rihanna is easily one of the biggest names in pop history. Throughout the years Rihanna has proved herself as an icon from her experience in music, fashion, acting, beauty, and philanthropy. From the age of 16 Rihanna began paving her own path as a highly successful artist with her first full-length album in 2005. The sound and lyrics of Rihanna’s music fits the popular interest of the time, through this Rihanna shows her range of taste and talent. From the dark-pop from ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ in 2007 with 4 number one hits, to the alternative-synthetic sound of 'ANTI' in 2016 with 3 number one hits and plenty of acclaim.
Along with being a successful music artist, she proves her talent as an actor in multiple movies and shows like ‘Valerian’ and ‘Bates Motel’. As with most celebrities, when you show talent in more than one aspect, many doors will open for you, and when referring to Rihanna, she took all of them.
Looking back on any televised event it is easy to see Rihanna as a fashion icon. The two years Rihanna has attended the MET Gala, she has won the best look of the entire event. At the gala in 2017 she tells an interviewer, “I love art, I see it as an endless way of expressing yourself” when explaining her dress. From this quote it is easy to see that Rihanna’s love for fashion exceeds looking pretty, but it is an appreciation of the art in the outfit. But Rihanna’s appreciation extends past just art, but the beauty in a person. Recently this year, Rihanna’s makeup line came out and stole the show. Being new to the makeup scene, Rihanna quickly became one of the most acclaimed creators with her diversity in shade and high quality products. A problem for many people is finding a suitable product for you skin type and shade, Rihanna ended that problem with a high quality foundation and forty different shades. Through the creation process of this line, Rihanna continues to state that she just wants the user of the product to feel beautiful and have confidence in themselves. When learning the meaning behind the creation of her makeup, this is not the first project Rihanna has done to aid others.
In January of this year, Rihanna accepted the Humanitarian of the Year award after the establishment of the Clara Lionel Foundation. Using her wealth and influence as a celebrity, Rihanna created an access point for women and girls in Barbados to get health care and education. Following the Clara Lionel Foundation, Rihanna launched a global scholarship program, which helps the residents of Brazil, Haiti, Guyana, and the United States to go to college. “...you don’t have to be rich to be a humanitarian. You don’t have to be rich to help somebody. You don’t have to be famous,” Rihanna said while speaking at Harvard to accept her award (Saltzman).
